Punta del Arenal
Sea-level perspective at the southern end of Arenal Beach, on Tosca rock with remains of a Roman settlement.
Route Tips
Crown jewel: sunset behind Montgó where the 'elephant' silhouette is profiled with the sun falling behind its head.
This viewpoint breaks the trend of high cliffs to offer a perspective at sea level. Located at the southern end of the Arenal Beach, it sits on a Tosca rock formation where remains of a Roman settlement (the Salt-Curing Factory) have been found. It is a place that combines the tourist modernity of Jávea's most famous beach with the thousand-year history of its first inhabitants. From the Punta del Arenal, the crown jewel is the view of the sunset behind the Montgó. This is the exact spot where the silhouette of the mountain (the famous 'sleeping elephant') is profiled with the sun falling just behind its 'head'. It is an urban viewpoint, with benches and very accessible, ideal for a romantic stroll after dinner in the leisure area. Don't forget to look at the ancient Roman basins carved into the rock that still fill with seawater.
Transport
Although some sections can be done on foot, it's best to travel by car or motorcycle as the complete route covers about 20 km.
Best Time
Sunrise at Cape San Antonio and sunset at Punta del Arenal are the most powerful experiences.
Equipment
Bring water, comfortable shoes (some viewpoints have dirt paths) and good binoculars to see the islands and boats.
