AEMET forecast

Beach weather, three days ahead

Official forecast from Spain's State Meteorological Agency for the beaches of Xàbia. AEMET issues a dedicated forecast for El Arenal and La Granadella; the town's other coves have no specific published forecast.

What each reading means

AEMET publishes these seven variables per beach. The first three are split into morning and afternoon; the rest are whole-day values.

Sky
Expected cloud cover. Split into morning and afternoon because it often shifts around midday on the coast.
Wind
Expected wind strength. From “moderate” upwards, offshore wind can drag inflatables and air beds out to sea.
Sea state
Expected wave height and power. “Slight” means calm water; “strong” means currents, and swimming is not advised for weak swimmers.
Max temperature
Highest air temperature expected for the day, in degrees Celsius.
Feels like
How hot or cold it actually feels, combining temperature and humidity. It can differ from the maximum by several degrees.
Water temperature
Expected sea water temperature, in degrees Celsius.
Max UV index
Peak ultraviolet radiation at solar noon. The higher it is, the faster skin burns.

Official status versus forecast

Red Cross and authorised operators report flags, jellyfish, lifeguards and operational conditions. AEMET provides a forecast, not a live observation. Coves without their own code use the nearest labelled reference beach.

Before entering the water

  • Always follow the flag and lifeguard instructions.
  • Take extra care under a yellow flag; swimming is prohibited under a red flag.
  • Conditions can change between updates due to wind, waves, water quality or emergencies.

Javea beach status questions

How often is the beach status updated?

The system checks its sources every 30 minutes. Each card shows the latest available check.

Is the flag calculated from the AEMET forecast?

No. Flags come from Red Cross or authorised operators. AEMET is only used for wind, waves, temperature and UV forecasts.

Why do some coves use a reference beach?

AEMET publishes beach-specific forecasts for El Arenal and Granadella. Other areas use the nearest reference, clearly labelled as such.
