L'Illa (The Island)

Closest point to Portitxol Island, a 300m rock mass with Roman archaeological remains and protected botanical value.

Route Tips

Ideal for watching divers and traditional fishermen. Very photogenic in mornings with frontal sun on the island.

If you want the best photo of Portitxol Island, this is the place. It is the closest point on dry land to the island, a 300-meter-long rock mass that holds archaeological remains from the Roman era. The island is protected for its botanical value and for being a refuge for marine birds. From the viewpoint, you can even see the bottom of the channel that separates the island from the coast, where the water is usually completely calm. This viewpoint is ideal for observing marine activity: from divers exploring the island's depths to traditional fishermen still working in the area. It is a very photogenic balcony, especially in the mornings when the sun frontally illuminates the face of the island. Fun Fact: The island was used in ancient times as a refuge during storms, and today it is one of the most famous diving spots in all of Spain.

Transport

Although some sections can be done on foot, it's best to travel by car or motorcycle as the complete route covers about 20 km.

Best Time

Sunrise at Cape San Antonio and sunset at Punta del Arenal are the most powerful experiences.

Equipment

Bring water, comfortable shoes (some viewpoints have dirt paths) and good binoculars to see the islands and boats.
