Les Pesqueres

Fascinating human history: rope and ladder structures where fishermen risked their lives on vertical cliffs.

Route Tips

Raw, wild and vertical landscape. Southward view with Marina Alta coastline and Calpe's Peñón de Ifach in the distance.

This is the viewpoint with the most fascinating human history in Jávea. 'Les Pesqueres' were rope and wooden ladder structures that men from neighboring villages (like El Poble Nou de Benitatxell) installed on vertical cliffs to fish at night. They risked their lives hanging over the abyss to catch fish that they then sold at local markets. From this balcony, you can try to spot the remains of these ancient fishing structures among the rocks. It is a raw, wild, and vertical landscape. The view southward shows the Marina Alta coastline in all its splendor, with Calpe's Peñón de Ifach appearing in the distance. It is a place that inspires respect for the force of nature and the courage of the ancient fishermen.

Transport

Although some sections can be done on foot, it's best to travel by car or motorcycle as the complete route covers about 20 km.

Best Time

Sunrise at Cape San Antonio and sunset at Punta del Arenal are the most powerful experiences.

Equipment

Bring water, comfortable shoes (some viewpoints have dirt paths) and good binoculars to see the islands and boats.
