Creu del Portitxol

Hub of historic paths presided over by a carved stone cross, starting point to Cala de la Barraca.

Route Tips

Main view of Portitxol Island with its conical shape. Beginning of landscape change toward the great southern cliffs.

Located on a hub of historic paths, this viewpoint is presided over by a carved stone cross. It is the starting point for the route down to the famous Cala de la Barraca. Historically, this place has been a reference point for farmers who descended to the vineyards and olive groves that once surrounded the entire coast of Xàbia. The main view from here is the Portitxol Island. Its conical shape and rugged coastline are perfectly visible. From this point, you begin to feel the change in landscape: we leave behind the urban beaches and enter the area of the great southern cliffs. It is a place with a lot of energy and very popular for starting hiking routes toward Cap Prim (Cape San Martín).

Transport

Although some sections can be done on foot, it's best to travel by car or motorcycle as the complete route covers about 20 km.

Best Time

Sunrise at Cape San Antonio and sunset at Punta del Arenal are the most powerful experiences.

Equipment

Bring water, comfortable shoes (some viewpoints have dirt paths) and good binoculars to see the islands and boats.
