Javea with a dog: where you can, where you can't, and what the rules say
The town's dog parks, the rules on beaches, parks and trails, emergency vets and how to get around with your dog — based on official council information.
Can you take a dog to the beach?
No. There is no beach in Xàbia with authorised access for dogs.
Article 162 of the municipal ordinance on civic coexistence and safety prohibits dogs and other animals from entering parks, gardens, beaches and public venues where their entry is not expressly authorised. There is no seasonal exception — not even out of season.
The same ordinance expressly prohibits animals in landscaped areas and in parks and children's play areas.
Trails and Montgó Natural Park
Dogs are allowed on all of Xàbia's official hiking routes, provided they are kept on a lead. Breeds classed as potentially dangerous must wear a muzzle.
Inside Montgó Natural Park dogs are allowed as long as they are on a lead and muzzled, to avoid accidents and disturbance to wildlife and other visitors.
