Xàbia activates red alert for heavy rain from Sunday
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has established a yellow alert for rain for Xàbia which, from midnight, will become orange. On Sunday 18 October at 10:00 the red alert will be activated, lasting until Monday 19 at 9:59.
Given the forecast of heavy rain, the municipal emergency committee CECOPAL has met to coordinate security measures. During the red alert period all municipal sports activities will be suspended and sports facilities, municipal parks and the cemetery will be closed.
The council has issued a series of recommendations to the population, including avoiding unnecessary travel and taking extreme precautions. It also advises against entering garages to retrieve vehicles if it is raining and there is a risk of flooding, and against using lifts in those circumstances. It also asks people to keep drains on terraces and private spaces clear whenever it is safe, not to cross flooded areas or ravines and to follow the instructions of the emergency services. For any updates, citizens should pay attention to the official channels of Xàbia Town Hall.
